A brief note about the Christmas Party

I forgot to mention the coolest part of that evening. We had Santa there for an hour before the activity began. Any family that wanted to come see Santa could do it during that time. We set him up in the YW room, so, the kids could go in one door and out the other--avoiding traffic jams (mostly). Then, we had set up "Santa's Workshop" in the Relief Society Room that consisted of a holiday movie, craft, coloring, paper for letters to Santa, etc. That kept everyone busy until we opened the gym for dinner and the program. One of the women on our committee suggested it after she had done it in another ward, and I thought it was brilliant. It worked out really well. I heard a lot of good feedback about it. People liked that it didn't happen during the scheduled evening because it avoided the long lines, people without kids or with kids that weren't interested didn't have to sit through all of that chaos, and it made the evening flow really well. We were done cleaning up and home by 9:00! That made me a happy girl!

Great plan. If I'm ever in charge, I'll for sure want to do the same.

That is how we have done it for a few years and it certainly works smoothly that way. Everyone can enjoy the evening (that is, of course, unless they are busy 'splaining to the firemen....)
