Menu planning

Matt and I implemented an menu schedule last week. It's been something he and I have talked about before, but we actually put it in place this time. I cook dinners on weeknights, and Matt cooks on the weekend. He likes cooking more than I do, but I'm home before he is 99% of the time, so it gives me more time to prepare a meal.
On Saturdays, we sit down and make a menu for the week of healthy, well-balanced dinners. Then, Matt goes grocery shopping on Saturday. (PS I love that he does the shopping!).
Another requirement of this plan is that we sit down together to eat. No TV, no interruptions. We've done it for a week now, and it's been really great! Of course, most of the nights last week, we were either gone during dinner time or playing Ticket To Ride. However, I cooked on Thursday and Friday, and Matt cooked this weekend. Thursday I made a soup that was a pretty good, but a little too bland for my taste. Friday night, however, we had a wonderful stew that I would make again in a heartbeat! Another bonus--yummy lunches of leftovers!!!
The conversation during dinner is really nice. I love just chatting with Matt. He's such an interesting person, and I feel like we connect so much better during those times than when we are both running 15 different directions. It's been a blessing to have mealtimes together.

Have you gotten hooked on the crockpot for soups yet? I go in cycles, but there are some weeks that I use it for 5+ meals. I love it!

I always enjoy eating with Greg. We laugh a lot. Of course, it helps that he will eat anything I make and he must have a cast iron stomach, but that's good for me.

Matt's a little pickier than that, but he seems to be pretty easy about it as long as the meals don't include "rabbit food" (aka anything green and leafy).

I'm glad you are implementing your new system. I'd love it if you would post your stew recipe and/or any other really good ones you try. Even though there's tons of recipes out there, it's always fun to see what your friends like!

We tried a menu system. We wrote everything down on a piece of paper. I think somebody ate it.
