First Day

Well, my first day of work at Holt went really well. My feet are killing me from new shoes (I have chosen poorly), but my brain doesn't feel like mush, which is very encouraging! All in all, I'm really excited! Even better, I only got two files to transcribe today, so, it should be a tolerable day!
I've been thinking about office politics recenlty. I anticipate this office having politics just like every other job I've been in, but this time, I plan to handle it differently. I'm simply going to be friendly but not a friend to anyone. I will be completely civil but not divulge very much about me. On top of that, I will politely stop others from gossiping to me and not give them any informaiton to gossip about me. Well, those are my goals. I would rather be completely left out of things than be tied up in them all the time or be expected to be the peacemaker. Not what I'm paid for, and I don't have the energy to do it. Keep your fingers crossed that a role like that will fall into place for me. It will certainly take come assertiveness on my part.

Congrats on the new job and I'm glad to hear your first day went well. And may you be blessed to be friendly but avoid all office leeches...those who have this power of sucking the life out of you with their endless need of attention, incessant whining and declaring you their new best friend after 3 days. =)

My favorite response to gossip is, "hmm. weird." and move on. Good luck with your goals...I'm sure you'll do great!
