Are you serious?!?!

We got a follow up on the offer we received last week.
Here's the skinny:

List Price: $287,500.

Original Offer: $265,000.

Uh, no. After all the work (and $) we put into it, we think we can ask for more.

Follow up offer from them: $270,000, but throw in the living room furniture. Also included in the offer was a message from their realtor letting us know that this was a couple with two young kids and that the wife had been in an accident last year.

What? You want our living room furniture?!? Glad you like it; you can't have it! I have to admit, I was a little bit insulted by this and the comment about her being in an accident. I understand that they are trying to buy a house that they love that is out of their price range. Maybe I'm unfeeling, but my reaction was, sorry that you had an accident last year, and sorry the house is out of your price range. Looks like you might need to stick to only looking at places within your budget. There are lots of houses that I LOVE that are outside of what we could have spent. It's okay to dream, but let's not play the sympathy card, give low offers, and eye the furniture. Probably not helping the cause. So, our reaction? A counter offer. I'm curious to see what will happen with that...

What was the counter offer? $270,000, but you and Matt can still use the garage for storage?

I love that idea! You can never have enough storage!

Throw in the living room furniture???? That is so weird!

Oh, and when we were buying a house we asked for the standard 30 day close and the seller's realtor told us a sob story about how they couldn't be out of the house in 30 days and did we want his little boy out in the street, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then, they ended up moving out a week early!
